Police arrest 9 suspects, recover stolen items in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended nine individuals suspected of robbery in relation to recent armed residential thefts occurring within the Kumasi Metropolis.

According to police reports, the operation resulted in the death of one suspect, who suffered gunshot injuries during a confrontation with police officers. He was quickly transported to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Another suspect, who also incurred gunshot injuries, is presently undergoing treatment at the hospital while being closely monitored by police personnel.

The other suspects who are currently in police custody include Kelvin Adomako 29, Daniel Dwomoh 46, Kwadwo Kyei Baffour 39, Joseph Oppong 29, Bernard Owusu Ansah 27, Kwadwo Konadu 27, James Asare Boateng 26, Emmanual Asiedu 27, and Maxwell Gyimah 31.

The suspects were armed with pump-action guns, pistols, and other offensive weapons.

Police added that items retrieved from the suspects’ hideout during the operation include multiple laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and two Toyota Corollas.

Speaking at a news conference in Kumasi, on Monday, June 30, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye Cudjoe, revealed that during interrogation, one of the suspects, identified as Kwabena Baffour, confessed to the crimes and admitted to committing rape during one of the operations.

Another suspect, identified as Yahaya Nuhu, is currently at large. The police have assured the public of their commitment to locating his whereabouts.
