Hearts of Oak will host arch rivals Asante Kotoko on Matchday 30 of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium later today.
With just four matches remaining in the 2024/25 Premier League season, both giants have everything to play for in a high-stakes contest that could shape their respective campaigns.
Hearts of Oak remain in contention for a top-four finish — a feat they have not achieved since their title-winning 2020/21 season. Under the guidance of Aboubakar Ouattara, the Phobians are showing signs of resurgence, collecting eight points from their last five matches (W2, D2, L1). They currently sit 6th on the league table with 45 points from 29 matches, having scored 25 goals and conceded just 17 — the best defensive record in the league.
Despite that, their home form has left much to be desired. The Phobians have registered seven wins, three draws, and four defeats at home this season — a tally that ranks them among the league’s least impressive home sides.
Ouattara is still seeking his first league victory against Kotoko and will hope to break his winless streak against the Porcupine Warriors.
Asante Kotoko head into the game with renewed confidence following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Aduana FC, which ended a four-match winless run (D2, L2). New coach Abdul Karim Zito, who took charge in April, is eyeing back-to-back victories.
Kotoko sit 4th on the table with 50 points — just three behind league leaders Gold Stars FC — and know a win could thrust them right back into the title race. Though they are winless in their last five away games (D3, L2), Kotoko have proven to be one of the more dangerous attacking sides in the league with 29 goals scored and 21 conceded.
Zito will be managing his first league Super Clash as Kotoko coach but boasts an unbeaten record against Hearts of Oak from two previous encounters (W1, D1), with his teams yet to concede a goal in those matches.
The game is scheduled for a 3 pm kickoff.
