South Africa’s president Jacob Zuma has yet again survived a motion of no- confidence, this time lodged by his own party, South African media reported.

According to the reports, no formal vote took place at the three-day long conference of the ANC’s National Executive Committee in Pretoria that ended on Monday.

The embattled president faced the vote brought forward by the National Executive Committee with at least three of his cabinet ministers turning against him.

In an unprecedented debate which analysts view as waning of Zuma’s political influence, some members called for him to step down while those close to him came to his defence.

Zuma’s term in office ends in 2019, but the ANC is due to elect a new party leader at the end of next year.
