The Aviation Minister has urged Airlines in the country to strictly comply with best practices in the conduct of their operations.

The call came from Cecilia Dapaah at a maiden breakfast meeting between the aviation ministry and stakeholders of the industry in Accra on Tuesday, August 8, 2017.

Speaking to air travel operators, she pointed out that a deliberate and collaborative effort to adopt and maintain global benchmarks was critical to boosting Ghana’s Aviation industry ratings and its economic potentials.

She noted that “The demography of the population shows that there is a huge potential for the growth of aviation in the sub-region. The data and travel patterns present an opportunity for local airlines to grow and expand their operations beyond the borders of Ghana. I, therefore, urge all to adopt best industry practices to ensure that travel to and within Ghana is as seamless as possible”.

The Aviation Minister hinted that the country’s leadership is currently engaged in an ongoing discussion with some foreign investors from the United Arab Emirates, China and Turkey who have indicated strong interest in partnering with the Ghanaian government to develop a world class airport at Prampram in the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

Commenting on the proposed national airline, Mrs Dapaah reiterated that the government will not interfere with its operations. Adding that, the essence of the decision is to ensure efficiency in the management of the air carrier to prevent yet another collapse.

Ghana plans to revamp its national airline after two previous carriers, Ghana Airways and Ghana International Airlines collapsed.
