The alleged missing helicopters purchased by the former Mahama administration for the Ghana Gas Company is not missing, said former deputy minister for Power, John Jinapor.

Investigations by the Public Interest and Accountability Committee have shown that three helicopters worth a hundred and fifty million dollars ($ 150 million) purchased for Ghana Gas Company cannot be traced.

According to the co-chair of the Ghana Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (GHEITI), Dr. Steve Manteaw who is also a member of the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) “The three helicopters that were bought for $ 150 million are nowhere to be found at the site…I have asked about the helicopters but there are no answers forth coming….”

Responding to the allegation, John Jinapor said the helicopters commissioned by the former president was in good shape before they left office and the allegation of it missing is surprising.

“the helicopters are not missing…before I left office, the helicopters were in good shape and were working…the management saying they do not know about the procurement of the helicopters is surprising.” He told StarrFM.

He added that “We procured four helicopters and they were commissioned by John Mahama in public. Ghana Gas does not have the pilots and expertise to fly the helicopters…the helicopters are not supposed to be parked at Atuabo…the Ghana Armed Forces was asked to manage the helicopters.”
