Parliament has approved the 2022 Appropriations Bill early Saturday morning without the contentious E-levy.

The 2022 Appropriations Bill gives power to the government to withdraw funds from the Consolidated Fund for meeting the expenditure during the next financial year.

The debate and decision on the controversial E-Levy have been deferred to Monday, December 20, 2021, based on a request by the Minority in Parliament.

The Minority caucus in Parliament has kicked against the government’s 2022 Budget, describing it as not being sensitive to the needs of Ghanaians and businesses as the E-Levy would heighten the economic hardship of the people.

Meanwhile, last week, Deputy Minister for Finance, Abena Osei-Asare, disclosed there has been good progress in ongoing consultations regarding the proposed E-Levy introduced in the 2022 budget.

She said at the time that the consultation process will influence the outcome of the final tax instrument that will be laid in Parliament before Friday, December 17, 2021.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, was compelled to consult widely on the controversial 1.75% E-levy after a backlash.

Senior Presidential Advisor, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has said the Agyenkwa 2022 Budget is one of the best ever.

According to him, the budget makes provision for youth employment through entrepreneurship as well as skills development and the introduction of the Electronic levy (E-levy) to fund entrepreneurship ventures.
