Government has cleared about 185 companies for participation in its ongoing implementation of the one-district-one-factory initiative.

The business proposals presented by the companies after being grilled by a team of experts in various aspect of Ghana's industrial sector, emerged as ‘viable and bankable’. Hence, the shortlisted firms are booked for implementation of the programme in 99 districts across Ghana.

In an interaction with the media, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Robert Ahomka-Lindsey, noted that about 40% of the companies are from the manufacturing; 40% from agro-processing and the remaining 20% drawn from other industries.

“The total value of the projects is close to US$1.8billion. So, we are very bullish about it. These 185 companies are bankable. They are businesses that have a good financial plan, good marketing plan, and good management among others”, he said.

He reiterated that the purpose of the one-district-one-factory initiative was to promote growth of the private sector - particularly, in the development of at least, one medium- to large-scale industrial enterprise per district with the capacity to improve the economy the area.
