The Ministry of Finance has disclosed that the proposed electronic Point of Sale systems for tracking tax revenues in the country will be launched by July next year.

This follows an announcement by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta during the 2018 budget presentation on Wednesday that the government will introduce the electronic PoS systems as part of its measures to clamp down on tax evaders.

A source close to the Finance Ministry disclosed that the implementation of the program will be subject to the institution of some critical laws which are meant to cover the plan.

Under the proposed system, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) monitors will be connected to PoS devices at the various issuing centres across the country.

This way, it would become practically impossible for some companies to understate the taxes issued to customers and will also, guarantee general tax compliance by the issuing entities.

Consequently, the implementation of the program is expected provide government the needed support in its effort to achieve the proposed Ghc 51 billion tax revenue target for next year.
