Govt woos Czech investors into manufacturing sector

The government has called on Czech investors to get involved in the country’s manufacturing sector in an effort to increase Czech investment in Ghana.

The development forms part of an on-going implementation of a public private partnership strategy (local and foreign) adopted by the President Akufo – Addo led administration to achieve its ambitious national industrialization and jobs agenda.

Making the call on behalf of the government during a courtesy call on the Junior Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, Ivan Jancarek – Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, said the government is determined to explore avenues that will deepen the existing economic and social ties between both countries.

Mr. Ahenkorah, reiterated that, "[Ghana] have opened [its] doors to any investor who wants to invest in Ghana.

He added that, “Companies like the sugar factory, Abosso Glass factory, the matches factory which came from here are all there, and government is ready to give them to interested Czech investors".

Mr. Ahenkorah led a Ghana Free Zones Board (GFBZ) investment promotion mission to the Czech Republic and was accompanied by a Deputy Minister of Information, Perry Okudzeto; Ghana Ambassador to the Czech Republic, Virginia Hesse; Executive Secretary of the GFZB, Michael Baafi, as well as some officials of Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Ahenkorah, pointed out that although the trade relations in the between both countries was good, it could be better if there specific measures to promote it.

He expressed the optimism that, "today, if there is any country that you want to invest in, l would recommend Ghana to you because of the stable political environment, good management of the economy, and a business friendly government coupled with the fact that the economy is also picking up".
