Special Mobilization Taskforce of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has recovered about Ghc128.6 million over the last six months (January - July 2017) from some entities in the country who evaded tax.

In an interview, head of the GRA Special Taskforce, Henry Sam said the remittances from the defaulting businesses were as a result of ongoing compliance activities by his team targeted at various entities across the country.

He reiterated the report from a BNI investigation that involved 42 companies which revealed that, only 3 out of the 42 issued VAT/NHIL invoices during their business transactions with customers or clients.

He noted that on that basis, the GRA through its Special Taskforce is undertaking a nation-wide crackdown on defaulters as well as, work with the key stakeholders in ensuring that the level of compliance with the nation’s revenue agency standards is significantly improved.

Last Wednesday August 17, the Taskforce shut down two hotels in Accra: New Haven and Adeko, after the BNI report indicated that both companies had consistently flouted the VAT/NHIL regulations in the country by not issuing invoices (VAT/NHIL invoices) to their clients.
