The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has launched a nationwide safety awareness campaign for customers on the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas – LPG.

The flagship sensitization exercise kicked off at the Central Region featuring a tour of restaurants, chop bars, as well as other public facilities by the Chief Executive of NPA, Alhassan Tampuli, and Deputy Minister of Energy Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the campaign on Tuesday August 29, 2017, Mr. Tampuli noted that, “[the NPA] will not do ‘arm chair’ enforcement of safety measures, as you can see, we are on the field to check what is available on the ground and make corrections. We will continue to regularly educate consumers on the safe use of petroleum products”.

The sensitization campaign forms part of a collaborative effort involving the NPA and the Petroleum sub-ministry aimed at combating the rising level of LPG related accidents in the country ranging from: explosions, fire-outbreaks, among others.

The campaign is expected to run across all ten regions of the Republic of Ghana at various dates during the remaining months of the year.
