The Finance Minister has disclosed that Fifty-five factories are expected to begin the government's flagship programme, One District, One Factory (1D1F) by the end of 2017.

Presenting the midyear budget review to parliament on Monday, Ken Ofori-Atta indicated that the over 50 factories will bring about 80,000 direct and indirect jobs. This follows the commencement of the programme implementation frame of which certain modalities have been prepared.

He said to date, the technical support group for the programme has already reviewed 234 businesses for the initiative and work is on going to bring all of them to fruition.

The Minister continued that about 59 per cent of these applications are from the manufacturing sector while 33 per cent are from the agribusiness sector. "It is envisaged that more than 55 will start actual implantation of their enterprises by year-end with the potential to generate about 80,000 direct and indirect jobs.”

The One District One Factory programme is a flagship project of the Nana Akufo-Addo government designed to establish at least one viable factory in all 216 districts in Ghana, as part of an industrialization drive aimed at providing jobs and transforming the economic fortunes of the Ghanaian.
