Over GH¢1 billion has been released to government contractors to resume work on uncompleted road projects across Ghana.

The decision comes as a follow on concerns expressed by the Ghanaian over the many stalled road projects across the country.

Making the disclosure during a two-day working visit to the Upper East region, President Nana Akufo – Addo noted that, “a lot of road projects were suspended because between two to five years, contractors in this country were not paid for even genuine jobs done”.

He went to add that he is, “happy to announce that, within a period of eight months, government has paid contractors a little over ¢1 billion and disbursements for both Government of Ghana and Road Fund projects are currently going on”.

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta explained that works on most uncompleted roads have over the last two years been starved of funds but that it has been rectified now and, work will commence across the country.

The move has been hailed by various sections of the Ghanaian public who are of the general view that, the President Akufo Addo government couldn’t claim seriousness with the implementation of its ambitious industrialization or economic development agenda if it didn’t give adequate attention to developing the nation’s transport infrastructures.
