While other graduates choose to wait at home for years until  a gainful employment emerges, the brain behind pastry shop ‘Dede’s Cakes n Creams’ chose to chart her own path after undertaking the mandatory national service as a dutiful citizen.

Born Perpetual Naa Dede Osom, the lady sometimes called Pep, says she dug deep to investigate what her passion was given her friends could sew, braid hair or write. That enquiry led to a discovery of cake making abilities.

“I started with cupcakes to church, the feedback was very good. In the formative years I wasn’t charging, I did a lot of free sampling to gather varied opinions. Friends and relations loved the cakes and soon orders started coming true” the merry lady intimated.

There was a need to secure an office to do fulltime business and it was here that partner Kwame Acheampong secured an investor who provided funds to rent a place in the Slices & Toppings restaurant at Tema in the Devtraco estate.

According to Madam Osom, ‘Dede’s Cakes n Creams’ makes cupcakes, birthday cakes, vegetarian cakes, pan cakes and waffles with syrup or cream.

She explained there is a breakfast service for clients rushing to work which begins at 6:00 am rounding up at 8:30 pm.

Offerings available include American breakfast comprising scrambled eggs, potato hash, hash browns, bacon, sausages, omelet, juice, Lipton tea, green tea and smoothies.

There is also Milo cocoa beverage, Tom Brown, oats, toasted bread, omelet sandwiches, doughnuts, French toast, sandwiches and cookies on offer.

Working with the slogan “Experience the Magic” Dede stressed every meal at her food court is made with love and dedication from the heart.

“My cakes depending on client specification contains butter, eggs (optional), flour, sugar, honey, cinnamon, milk and fresh cow milk” the 24 year Chief Executive Officer submitted.

She stated her prices are competitive with a vanilla custom made cake going for GH¢85.00, chocolate cake GH¢95.00, velvet cake GH¢150.00 and cheese/cream cake going for GH¢150.00 and upwards.

Lovers, singles seeking to impress their love interest will do well to visit ‘Dede’s Cake n Creams’ in the Slices restaurant at Devtraco Estate to sample for themselves the rich delicacies on offer.

To locate the restaurant housing the cake outlet, potential clients can take a Prampram headed bus at Lapaz or Tema roundabout, alight at Estate junction and take a taxi bound for the Devtraco Estate before alighting at Slices restaurant premises for their treats.

For one born to a military commando father who served in Ghana Army’s 64 battalion and a bread baker moving with parents through Cantonments, Labadi, Adabraka, Nyamekye and Tantra Hill, Dede says she has gained valuable lessons through life.

The Wesley Grammar, Pentecost University graduate has gained a solid reputation in relatively short time since starting operations in May 2016 with some clients naming her ‘Ma Fi Wu Icing Nu’ referring to the rich creams on her cakes.

“My dream is for ‘Dede’s Cakes n Creams’ to become a global franchise like KFC and McDonalds but in the short term I hope to open branches in the 10 regional capitals springing from Tema to Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi” the lovely damsel concluded.
