As the second half of 2025 gets rolling, certain African countries' which boast the continent's strongest currencies, continue to appreciate.

After years of turmoil typified by inflation, high debt burdens, and currency devaluation, a minor increase in exchange rates might provide these countries with a rare economic respite.

While not all African currencies are strengthening, those that are showing indications of strength may profit in numerous ways.

One of the most immediate advantages of a stronger currency is lower inflation. Many African nations rely significantly on imports of basic products, including petroleum, food, and industrial inputs.

When a country's currency appreciates, imports become less expensive, lowering the cost of living for both individuals and companies.

In Africa, this is especially critical, considering that a large part of the products the continent consumes are produced outside of it.

A stronger currency also allows central banks to lower interest rates without risking more inflation, giving them more policy flexibility.

Furthermore, currency strength, when fueled by real economic fundamentals rather than artificial regulations, may benefit local industries by lowering the cost of imported raw materials and machinery.

This might boost productivity and competitiveness, particularly in the industrial and agricultural processing industries.

Countries with developing industrial bases might use stronger currencies to increase output and exports.

Many African countries retain a large share of their public debt in foreign currencies, namely US dollars and euros. When local currencies strengthen against these foreign denominations, the local currency cost of repaying the loan decreases.

This might free up government funds for more effective investment in health care, education, and infrastructure initiatives.

With that said, here are the strongest currencies currently, according to the Forbes currency converter, last updated on the 23rd of June.

For this month, the currency value for Tunisia, Morocco, and Ghana increased slightly compared to last month’s top 10 list.

While the currency value for Libya, Botswana, Swaziland, South Africa, and Namibia declined. Eritrea’s currency remained the same.
