Road transport operators, including the influential Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), have settled on a 15% increase in transport fares from Saturday, February 26, 2022.

This was after negotiations with key stakeholders on Monday, February 21, 2022.

A statement jointly signed by Mr Godfred Abulbire, GPRTU General Secretary and Mr Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary, Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), confirms the new fares.

The statement revealed that the decision was taken in line with the administrative arrangement on public transport fares and in consideration of the plight of drivers, commuters and the public.

The transport operators had been pushing for a 30% increase, citing rampant increases in fuel prices.
