The Volta River Authority (VRA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ABB to provide technical training for the electricity generating company's academy.

The disclosure was made by the country Managing Director of ABB – Heshmam Tehemer.

ABB is a Swiss multinational Corporation driven with the passion to continually be a global pioneering technology leader focused on providing specialized power, robotics as well as other utility, or industry products and services.

Under the arrangement, ABB will provide 21st century-oriented technology training to trainees at the VRA Academy.

The VRA Academy was established to provide professional training primarily to Ghanaians seeking to pursue careers in the power sector as a way of promoting local content, or participation in the industry.

The ABB MD asserted that the partnership is strictly between the company and the VRA and has nothing to do with the Swiss government.

The move is believed to have the potential to boost the efficiency of the VRA through its trainees whom (to a large extent) represent the next generation of technical staffs at Ghana’s leading electricity generating company.

Finally, in the face of the country’s growing energy needs as well as resources to meet them, the VRA has remained increasingly relevant in Ghana’s energy sector even when the government is currently exploring renewable alternative power generating sources.
