Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen has reiterated the need for Ghanaians to understand the policies of the government in order for the country to achieve the intended targets of positive transformation.

Delivering the keynote address at the Ghana Policy Summit on Monday, Mr Kyerematen pointed out that fifty years ago, the Republic of China adopted such perspective and had developed two policy instruments that have (over the last 2 decades) contributed to its global economic success.

He cited the policies to include, opening up their borders to foreign investors as well as not depending on only the domestic market for their revenue. The latter has helped in establishing a Chinese economic presence in literally every country on earth – including Ghana.

He reiterated the fact that, the Ghanaian government under President Nana Akufo – Addo is determined to adopt similar measures in an effort to also grow the country into a major African and global economic player in the near future.

He stated that “the agenda we [the government] have is an ambitious one: it requires bold & ambitious policy interventions”.

Mr Kyerematen concluded by highlighting some areas that make up the President Akufo - Addo government’s industrialization programme including; agriculture, energy, science and technology, among others.

In attendance at the Policy summit were Ghana’s President, government Ministers, representatives foreign governments and investors as well as other stakeholders.

The Ghana Policy Summit is aimed at providing these major stakeholders in Ghana’s economy the relevant orientation on various areas of the administration’s economic development programmes as well as highlight their respective roles in achieving them.
