The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison has stated that the central bank provides a general report of the country’s banking system and not those of individual banks.

He made this known during a press briefing at the Bank of Ghana headquarters in Accra to give more information on the collapse of two banks  UT and Capital, whose operations are now under the jurisdiction of the Ghana Commercial Bank.

There are accusations the bank's own unresponsive attitude towards proper regulation of the operations of banks in the country has resulted in the latest fallout. But he denied that was the issue, insisting;  “when reporting on the banking system, we report on the  aggregate banking system”.

He said the bank will always follow the right procedures in its disclosures and that while those processes are ongoing (dialogue with the institutions involved to see if they can meet the requirements for their survival), it will be unethical to put out names of potential banks to be absorbed.

The UT and Capital bank collapse has sent immense shocks across the country, creating panic among customers who had come to the bank for their transaction.
