2021 edition of Western Music Awards to honour Castro

The Western Music Awards, organised by Westline Entertainment, have announced that this year's ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, August 7, 2021, will be dedicated to Castro.

"A special tribute to Castro will be made at this year's edition. This year's edition is of particular interest to us because, for the last five years, we have had the unwavering support of showbiz players and the people of the Western Region, so we are doing something special this year," the awards' Public Relations Officer (PRO), Nana Kwesi Coomson, hinted.

Castro, a Takoradi hip-hop musician who went missing during jet-skiing at Ada seven years ago, has been officially declared dead.

The organisers also stated that due to the COVID-19 pandemic's ban on social gatherings, this year's award will be held in a hybrid format, with 60 per cent virtual and 40 per cent live audience at the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel.

The awards' will be broadcast live on three radio stations in the Western Region via their social media handles- Western Music Awards Ghana on Facebook and YouTube.

The tagline 'The Power of Music' on the night, nine artists from six genres are scheduled to perform, with twenty-six categories and there honorary awards to be presented. Wilson Arthur, a media mogul, and two others will be honoured this year.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m and will last four hours.
