Although the Xmas period had ‘Kakai’ and ‘Chop Kiss’ from Shatta Wale and ‘Mansa’ as well as ‘Brother Brother’ from Bisa Kdei serving as the toast of many music lovers, one tune was also in that stellar club and stills remains a crowd mover for many.

That tune is ‘Broken Heart’ easily identified as ‘Yooko Ebreaki Me’ by rising music sensation Nii Funny. From the latter part of 2015 to this time, I have been enjoying the tune with the hook:

//Jei nu pei ebreaki yoo…yoo hu nye ebreaki nuu…gari kopei enkei bei enkeboyeo……// but like certain songs, couldn’t identify the owner of the tune.

I had seen the power of the song on party folks at Odorkor, who went into ecstasy when the DJ unleashed the tune. From my base at Ablekuma also I have been soaking the tune from a bar which operates late in the night but still had no clue the voice behind the hit tune till by chance I saw certain pictures of Halifax with a young man he described as one he is handling musically and whose ‘Broken Heart’ tune was a precursor of greater things to come.

Now Halifax Ansah Addo, the journalist and entertainment critic can be unyielding as a stone so for him to believe in the abilities of Nii Funny is good omen and a check on Funny’s Facebook page reveals he’s had invites to many radio and TV shows including Hitz FM, GTV and Homebase TV.

The young chap is also getting shows to make some bread no doubt through the efforts of Halifax.

The video for ‘Broken Heart’ a.k.a ‘Yooko Ebreaki Me’ opens with Nii Funny engaging in playful love touches with his partner whereupon he extracts his heart from his chest to his lover underscoring his absolute trust in her.

Sadly however the entry of a wealthy man swayed Nii’s lady to shun him for the cash man.

Although the director for the video is not identified, the ‘Yooko Ebreaki Me’ video seems to have been set in Bukom/Salaga market where spirited Ga’s show love to one of their own. The ariel shot offered is decent while the acrobatic female dancers offer impressive skills worthy of commending.

Featured artiste Spanky however has to work on his looks as an entertainer. His image in the video looks ordinary but the biggest draw of this video is the number of known faces it managed to bring on set spanning Psalm Adjetefio, Funny Face, Chasey, Gasmilla and Ayitey Powers.

The tune itself resonated with many thanks to its simple message of a man handed a raw deal:

//It isn’t only men who cause heartbreaks…ladies equally do same//

//I consumed Gari with you, slept in a pitiable room with you, even bought you an iPhone while I used ‘drop that yam’ but the ingrate of a lady forgot so quickly when a purported cash man wowed her with money and ditched me//

It is a common tale among lovers of a partner not showing enough commitment in a relationship and perhaps explains why both males and females who have tales of their own sing along and dance their sorrows away with the tune.

Nii Funny has got good hooks and flow and on this one Spanky proves he’s got the goods to make a name for himself all things being equal. The future looks bright but it’s only the hits which can ensure good tidings flow in. Truth, manager Halix Ansah Addo knows too well.
