This year's Independence day for the first time was celebrated at the "Alhaji Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium” in Tamale with the theme “Peace and Unity”.

President Nana Akufo Addo has already addressed the nations, pledging to defend the nation's freedom with his last drop of blood, asked political parties to take steps to eradicate the growing trend of political vigilantism in the country, and also says the Independence anniversary celebration could be rotated among all the 16 regions.

It was a day celebrated with parades by students, cultural dance, acrobatics from the Ghana Army.

Today's occasion was observed by citizens of the Ghanaian diaspora within the cities and also around the world, with many pausing to reflect on their nation's history.
