Many years after breaking away from his partner Okyeame Quophi to embark on a solo career, rapper Okyeame Kwame has revealed the actual reason for his move.

According to him,  he left because he was broke after their return from the United States  and Quophi was not ready to get back into music so he had no choice than to go solo.

Kwame and Quophi, performed as a hiplife duo from 1997-2003 releasing four albums: Nyansapo (1997), Nkonsonkonson (1999), Ntoaso (2000) and Apam Foforo (2002) but split in 2003 after they returned from sojourning in the United States without giving any official reason

But after years of speculation, Okyeame Kwame who is popularly known as Rap Dacta has explained that while he was eager to re-enter the fray after their return, Okyeame Quophi, wanted them to build their talent gradually before returning to music.

“I was broke. We started music in 97; Kofi and I. We did music for a while and went to live in America…When we came back in 2003, we were broke. Whenever I told kofi, let’s go for a performance, Kofi said no, people will take us cheaply, let’s wait to build our artistry…”, he stated in an interview on Beta Malt “On the Go” (Taxi Edition) in response to a fan's question.Â
