The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that candidates writing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will begin selecting their preferred senior high schools from Monday, July 20, to Friday, August 7, 2026.
The announcement was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, and signed by the Director of the Schools and Instructions Division (Secondary), Prince C. Agyemang-Duah, on behalf of the Director-General of GES.
Before the school selection exercise begins, GES will organise a nationwide training and sensitisation programme for Regional, Metro, Municipal and District Directors of Education.
The training will take place from Wednesday, July 15, to Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the various regional education offices.
According to GES, the training is intended to help education directors better understand the 2026 school selection guidelines and placement procedures so they can effectively supervise the exercise in their respective districts.
The Service has asked all Regional Directors of Education to inform Metro, Municipal and District Directors within their regions and ensure they participate fully in the training.
The school selection exercise allows BECE candidates to choose the senior high schools they would like to attend after completing their examinations.
