The police in the Western regional capital Takoradi have arrested about 28 people for open defecation.
Some of the suspects have been charged and fined, while others have escaped arrest and declared wanted by the police in the region.
The Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly John Last, said the Environmental Health Department of the assembly started the exercise about a week ago to improve sanitation in the area.
The culprits were picked along the sea shore, which is very popular with people that engage in open defecation.

According to him, those put before the courts were fined an amount of GHC280 each. One of the suspects absconded and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest.
The action is part of efforts by the Assembly to clampdown on open defecation and littering in it's quest to improve on sanitation in the metropolis.
