The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures in parts of Accra ahead of Ghana’s 69th Independence Anniversary celebration scheduled for today, March 6, 2026, at Jubilee House.

In a statement, the police said the restrictions are necessary to support security arrangements and ensure the smooth movement of official convoys during the national ceremony.

“The Ghana Police Service wishes to inform the general public, particularly motorists, that some roads in Accra will be temporarily closed on Friday, 6th March 2026 in connection with the 69th Independence Anniversary Celebration to be held at the Jubilee House,” the statement said.

According to the police, the affected routes include Liberation Road from the Opeibea Intersection towards the Central Business District, Independence Avenue at the Ako Adjei By-pass, and Jawaharlal Nehru Road.

Authorities explained that the temporary closures are intended to facilitate security operations and the safe movement of dignitaries attending the national event.

Motorists using Liberation Road have been advised to divert through Kaokudi Road via the Kanda Highway to connect to Barnes Road towards the Central Business District. Alternatively, drivers may use Giffard Road towards Osu.

Drivers approaching Independence Avenue will also be redirected through the Kanda Highway to Ring Road Central before continuing towards the 37 Intersection and other destinations.

The police urged motorists to plan ahead and consider the alternative routes to avoid inconvenience.
