The Ghana Police Service has interdicted an officer captured in a viral video assaulting a reporter during the ongoing parliamentary election rerun at Ablekuma North.
The officer seen in a viral video on July 11 assaulted Banahene Agyeku, a GHOne TV journalist, while attempting to carry out his duties.
In a statement, the Police Service indicated that the said officer has been withdrawn from the ongoing election duty at Ablekuma North, in line with internal procedures.
The statement added that the officer has been interdicted and referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) for investigation.
The Service assured the public of a thorough probe into the incident and promised to provide further updates in due course.
He noted that several other journalists were present in the same area, and he was surprised to be singled out by the officer.
“I even showed him my ID card to prove that I am a journalist, justifying why I couldn’t leave — then he slapped me,” the reporter recounted.
