Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo says the final funeral and burial rites for her father, the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, will begin on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as previously announced, directly contradicting her brother’s declaration that the date is off.
Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, Head of the Safo Family and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission of Ghana, announced at a press conference on Monday that the July 30 date was null and void, citing unresolved disagreements over the funeral arrangements. He said a new date would be communicated later.
But speaking on Accra-based Angel FM, Adwoa Safo dismissed the cancellation outright, insisting the funeral committee had already finalised arrangements following consultations with key stakeholders including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
“On the 30th of July, we will go to Gomoa Mpota to bury my late father,” she said. “On the 31st of July, we will be at Independence Square to hold the funeral service. Then, on the 8th of August, we will travel to Asante Mampong in Kumasi for the thanksgiving service. So everyone should disregard the rumours that the funeral will not take place or that it has been cancelled.”
The standoff deepens a public rift between the siblings over how their father’s final rites and legacy should be handled.
The former Gender Minister also revealed she has successfully undergone surgery after sustaining gunshot injuries during the coronation of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I.
