Akufo-Addo appoints Afua Asabea Asare as new boss of GEPA

 Asabea Asare, Special Advisor to the Minister of Business Development has been appointed President Akufo-Addo as the new Executive Secretary for the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA).

A letter dated 7 June 2018 signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo, Secretary to the President, said: “Pursuant to Sections 2 (1) (L) and 9 (2) of the Ghana Export Promotion Act 1969, (N.L.C.D) I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you as the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.

“I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your appointment. Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days of receipt of this letter.”

The appointment of Ms Afua Asabea Asare comes a week after the president sacked GEPA Executive Secretary, Gifty Klenam and her two deputies.

Even though the government did not give reasons for Gifty Klenam's dismissal, sources say she may have been fired for mismanaging the public kitty through flagrant violations of the public procurement laws.

Afua Asabea Asare is a lifelong positive leadership and strategy enthusiast with a background in integrated communications.

Afua Asabea Asare has a 25-year management experience, working in a variety of corporate environments as a staff and consultant.

She has an MA in Positive Leadership and Strategy from IE University in Madrid, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from KNUST, Ghana, Post-Graduate Diploma in Organisational Development from the University of Cape-Coast and MBA International Business from Ecole Superieur de Gestion (ESG), Paris.

Afua Asabea Asare also has a Certificate in Strategic Marketing Management from the Harvard Business School, Cambridge, Boston, a post-graduate degree in Communications Studies, School of Comm. Studies, University of Ghana, Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising, Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Afua Asabea Asare is currently pursuing a Doctor in Business Management and a Master of Science degree in Research from the Swiss Business School.

She has authored various industry and business articles on coaching, leadership development and the diversity of thought and inclusion.

Afua Asabea Asare was a visiting lecturer and speaker at the China Europe International Business School’s (CEIBS) Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership in Africa (WELA) programme.

She serves on the Board of Venture Capital Trust Fund and the Advisory Board on Africa for IE University in Madrid, Spain.
