The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has issued a rejoinder addressing a social media publication concerning alleged rape and extortion cases involving two students.
According to the statement, the reported incidents did not occur on the university campus but rather in the nearby Ayeduase community, placing them outside the jurisdiction of the university’s internal security system.
KNUST further clarified that the suspect involved is not a member of its Security Services, but a private security guard employed at Ayeduase Roman Catholic Primary School.
The university emphasized that the individual has no affiliation with its official security structure.
Management noted that the cases were reported to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSU) in Kumasi and are currently being handled by state authorities, with the suspect already in police custody and the matter before court.
KNUST added that the victims are receiving counselling support from DOVSU, while the university’s Counselling Centre has also reached out to provide psychological and medical assistance.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to student safety and welfare, stressing its cooperation with relevant authorities to ensure justice is served.
