The Accra Metropolitan Assembly has appealed to the public to assist in tracing the relatives of a woman believed to be in her 60s who was found stranded at Agbogbloshie in Accra.
The woman, identified as Rose Okraku, is currently under the care of the Assembly’s Department of Social Welfare and Community Development after she was reportedly unable to identify her destination upon arriving in the capital.
According to the Head of Public Affairs at AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, preliminary information available to the Assembly suggests Madam Okraku boarded a commercial vehicle from Kasoa Market to Accra on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
However, upon arrival, she reportedly became disoriented and could not indicate where she was heading, prompting concern from members of the public who later ensured she was handed over to the appropriate authorities.
Mr. Ankrah disclosed that preliminary findings indicate Madam Okraku had previously been diagnosed with dementia and was undergoing treatment.
He explained that her condition may have contributed to her inability to identify her destination or reconnect with family members after arriving in Accra.
The Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has since taken custody of her and is working to ensure her safety while efforts continue to locate her relatives.
The Assembly is appealing to anyone with credible information that could help reunite Madam Okraku with her family to contact the Department through the numbers 0241856401 or 0243211345.
The AMA also encouraged families caring for elderly relatives, particularly those living with memory-related conditions, to take extra precautions when travelling or moving around to reduce the risk of similar situations.
