The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has provided alternative pedestrian routes at Kaneshie following the temporary closure of the footbridges to ensure public safety and facilitate ongoing repair works.
The new designated pedestrian crossing points were expected to allow safe movement while the footbridges remain closed.
Addressing residents, drivers, and commuters at the site during the creation of the routes on Thursday, the Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey appealed for full cooperation with the new traffic and safety arrangements, stressing that discipline on the roads was crucial to protecting lives.

He urged drivers to desist from parking along the roadside, explaining that such practices contributed to congestion and obstructed pedestrian movement.
He appealed to drivers to respect traffic regulations and give pedestrians the right of way, especially at designated crossing points, noting that failure to do so could result in fatal consequences.
The Mayor emphasised his commitment to enforcing the law, stating that authorities would not hesitate to take action against recalcitrant drivers.
He cited an incident where a driver attempted to drive through despite the presence of officials managing traffic, indicating that the individual would be handed over to the police for appropriate action.
He called on residents to support the Assembly’s efforts, stressing that development could only be achieved through collective responsibility and cooperation.
According to him, delivering on the city’s development agenda required collaboration among all stakeholders, including residents, drivers, and public officials.
He appealed to the public to comply with the new arrangements and warned that any attempt to bypass the designated routes or obstruct ongoing works would attract sanctions.
He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring public safety while improving infrastructure, assuring residents that the repair works would deliver a safer and more reliable facility upon completion.
