Some angry NPP youth have stormed the Sagnerigu district assembly in the Northern region assaulting some staff and vandalizing property.

Police there say they are also investigating claims that the youth threatened the life of the District Chief Executive(D.C.E). According to eye witnesses, the DCE, Iddrisu Mariama was the target of the attacks which took place yesterday but was not present at the time. Northern region police P.R.O, ASP Yussif Tanko said "Some youth

Northern region police P.R.O, ASP Yussif Tanko said "Some youth mobilized themselves and went to the Sagnerigu district assembly. We understand they were after the DCE but did not meet her, so they vandalized some tables and chairs. Police went there but did not meet any of them".

The office of the DCE’s Secretary was vandalized and two of the assembly’s staff were assaulted by the rampaging youth, said the members of a group called Kandahar Boys.

The attacks are said to have been fueled by recent contracts for the School Feeding Programme where the selection of some of the caterers for the programme did not make the youth happy.

"Our Municipal Commander and other officers are at the residence [ the DCE's Secretary], so it will depend on the interaction and what they will gather that will inform us as to what we should do next," said ASP Tanko.

In June this year, the Kandahar Boys clashed with a local vigilante group over the Chief Executive appointment for the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
