Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. has issued a statement clarifying details surrounding an incident that occurred on its concession near Mpatoam in the Amansie South District on 9 September 2025.
The Company confirmed that the incident involved a confrontation between military personnel and members of the local community.
The military presence on the concession, according to Asanko, is part of a state-mandated security operation coordinated through the Ghana Chamber of Mines.
Tensions escalated during the encounter, resulting in civil unrest, an attack on military camps, and the invasion of mining operational areas. The disturbance led to the loss of one life and significant damage to contractor equipment.
In a statement, the Company said:
“We share in the community’s grief over the tragic loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families during this difficult time.”
Asanko Gold Ghana Ltd. added that it is working closely with local authorities, government representatives, and community leaders to restore calm and address the situation. The Company reaffirmed its commitment to constructive dialogue with all stakeholders as investigations continue.
