Finance Minister and outgoing Acting Minister for Defence, Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, has commissioned the newly constructed Butler Barracks and Offices Complex in Burma Camp.
The project consists of a modern accommodation, administrative offices, and training facilities for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Central Band, the Central Ordnance Depot (COD), and the School of Ordnance.
Delivering the keynote address, Hon Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson said the project was a testament to the unwavering commitment Government to improving the welfare, working conditions and operational effectiveness of GAF.
He commended the Military High Command, the Ministry of Defence for their dedication and professionalism in delivering the project, and noted that the newly completed Barracks would improve operational efficiency and the quality of life of personnel.
The Acting Defence Minister also reaffirmed Government commitment to completing other key defence projects, including the Afari Military Hospital, while pursuing the sustainable approaches to military infrastructural development.
The Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters, Air vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai in his welcome address, described the commissioning as a historic milestone for GAF, noting that Butler Barracks stands among modern military facilities comparable to those of armed forces across the world.
He emphasised that military readiness begins at home, stressing that barracks are not merely accommodation but places where discipline, leadership and comradeship is strengthened.
Presenting the project brief, Director of Engineer Services (DES), Brigadier General Jonas Wiafe stated that the initiative was undertaken to relocate the Armed Forces Central Band, the Headquarters of the Central Ordnance Depot, and the School of Ordnance from their former locations along the El-Wak–37 corridors to modern purpose-built facilities.
Director General of DES further urged all beneficiaries to uphold the highest standards of maintenance. He expressed appreciation to Unique Development Limited, the project engineers, and all stakeholders whose commitment ensured the successful completion of the project.
