Awerco Construction Limited, contractors for the Weija Paediatric Hospital, has officially handed over the 130-bed facility to the Ministry of Health.
The handover ceremony took place on August 7, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Weija Paediatric Hospital and was monitored by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
According to EOCO, the handover follows a series of engagements facilitated by the Office, which resulted in an agreement for the facility to be transferred to the Ministry of Health to pave the way for the commencement of healthcare services.
The Office said the development marks a significant step towards the commissioning and operationalisation of the hospital, which is expected to provide children and their families with access to specialised paediatric healthcare services.
EOCO, however, clarified that the handover does not affect its ongoing investigations into alleged procurement breaches, financial impropriety and other related matters concerning the project.
The anti-corruption agency stressed that the operationalisation of the facility would not in any way affect or prejudice the investigations currently being conducted.
EOCO commended the Ministry of Health and Awerco Construction Limited for what it described as their commitment to the national interest and compliance with the terms of the agreement reached through the facilitated engagements.
The Office also reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public resources, promoting accountability and ensuring that public infrastructure projects deliver their intended benefits to the people of Ghana.
