More than 54,000 candidates who scored Grade 9 in either English Language or Mathematics in the 2026 BECE are to use the self-placement process to gain admission to Senior High School (SHS).
The Ministry of Education says the candidates remain eligible for SHS education despite not being automatically placed through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).
Deputy Minister for Education, Dr Clement Apaak, said the affected candidates should not be alarmed, as they can select schools with available vacancies through the self-placement platform.
He made this known while addressing the media on the 2026 school placement exercise.
"To candidates who obtained a score of nine in English Language or Mathematics or in both subjects, the government is providing you with an opportunity to participate in the self -placement.
"We encourage you take advantage of the opportunity and continue your education journey," a Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, said.
The Ministry said over 500,000 qualified candidates have so far been placed automatically through the CSSPS.
It has also urged candidates who require self-placement to access the CSSPS portal and follow the instructions to select schools with available vacancies.
Meanwhile, resolution centres established across the country are operating to assist candidates and parents who face challenges with the placement process.
