The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Patrick Yaw Boamah has said Ghana's Birth and Death Registry needs a total overhaul.

This follows revelations that a notorious Nigerian kidnapper, Chukwudidumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans acquired a Ghanaian passport for himself and three other immediate family members living in Ghana.

This according to Mr. Boamah shows gross inefficiencies at the Birth and Death Registry department, an overhaul is therefore needed to ensure that sanity returns to the department.

"We know that the kidnapper managed the acquire Ghanaian passports for himself(this year),wife and children in 2010 which means there are issues with the Birth and Death Registry and needs to be overhauled,"he stated on Citi FM.

He noted it's the weakest link in the passport acquisition process because once a genuine birth certificate is produced, and nobody raises an alarm over the said birth certificate, then the process becomes successful.

He therefore called for measures to be put in place to ensure that the Registry becomes very efficient and help in the fight against crime, to a large extent.
