President Akufo-Addo in a letter to the Chief Justice raised six concerns which he believes need the attention of the General Legal Council in the ongoing legal education reform debate.
Some law students on Monday, October 7, 2019, undertook a street protest in Accra to press home their demands for a reform in the legal education system.
The students are of the belief that there is a deliberate attempt by the General Legal Council (GLC) to unfairly and unjustifiably restrict the number of applicants who qualify to undergo professional legal education and pass out every year.
Prior to their protest, the students on a visit to President Akufo-Addo on May 6, 2019, petitioned him to address the mass failure of students at the Ghana School of Law.
President Akufo-Addo, upon receiving their petition, subsequently wrote to the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, to address the concerns of the students.
