A couple residing in Kokrobite, situated in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, has been arrested for allegedly beating their 13-year-old daughter to death after accusing her of eating food meant for her younger brother.

The victim, known as Celestine, was reportedly attacked by her father, Issah Mohammed, and her stepmother, Yaa Grace, following the stepmother’s report of the alleged incident upon Issah’s return from work.

Reports suggest that Issah had previously divorced Celestine’s biological mother due to ongoing abusive behaviour and was now cohabiting with his new partner, who is also implicated in the case.

Eyewitnesses narrating the incident in an interview monitored by The Ghan Report on Adom News said that Issah used a cane, shovel, and cutlass to inflict harm on the young girl, resulting in grave internal injuries.

They added that the couple confined Celestine in a separate room without access to food or water, where she ultimately passed away the next day.

Concerned neighbours alerted the police about the situation, which led to the couple’s arrest.

A relative of Celestine’s biological mother, Justina Acquah, voiced her outrage, stating that Issah had a longstanding pattern of abusive conduct and demanded justice for the deceased.

Meanwhile, the Kokrobite District Police Command has currently begun an investigation into the matter, while the body has been sent to the Police Hospital for an autopsy.
