The Ghana Telecom University College is partnering other institutions to provide entrepreneurship and employability masterclasses for tertiary students in Accra.

The school has teamed up with, Coventry University, a public research university in England and the African Institute for Transformational Entrepreneurship (AITE), to embark on the initiative.

A class has taken place in Accra, giving students the opportunity to interact and share ideas with alumni of Coventry University and other speakers from the British Council.

The 63 participants were taken through lessons on ethics and integrity, problem solving, critical thinking and the ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.

Speaking to the media after the event, Simon Hill, Lecturer in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at Coventry University said, it is vital for students to acquire skills that would make them standout in any working environment.

He presented insights into innovation, knowledge transfer, entrepreneurship, leadership, socio-economic development, and policy formulation.

A representative from the British Council Ghana, Gideon Brefo, said, the educational system in the country should be improved to focus more on entrepreneurship.

"That would solve the issue of graduate unemployment in the country as students would leave school equipped to open up businesses,” he stated.

Mr. Brefo who spoke on Repositioning Higher Education in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa, also highlighted the qualities employers’ value in graduates.

The masterclass ended with a networking ceremony which brought together business experts like Mutaru Mumuni, Executive Director, West Africa Centre for Counter- Extremism (WACCE) and executives from Coventry University.

President of GTUC and a Senior Member of Staff at Coventry University, Dr. Osei Kofi Darkwa said the collaboration between the two institutions would go a long way to help in producing employable graduates.

He was hopeful that more of such programmes would be organized in future with an increased number of people participating.
