The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has cautioned the public against fraudulent SMS messages claiming to collect fines on behalf of the authority.
According to the DVLA, scammers are sending text messages containing links that direct recipients to fake websites where they are prompted to pay purported fines.
The authority said some of the messages create a false sense of urgency or offer supposed discounts on fines to lure unsuspecting victims into making payments.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 10, the DVLA stressed that such messages are fraudulent and should be ignored.
“The DVLA does not offer discounts on fines. Any SMS, website, platform or person claiming to offer discounted DVLA fines is fraudulent,” the statement said.
The authority further clarified that all online payments for DVLA-related services must be made through the Government of Ghana’s official payment platform.
It also advised the public to verify any DVLA-related information through the authority’s official website, recognised DVLA offices and approved communication channels.
The DVLA warned motorists and members of the public against clicking suspicious links, sharing personal information or making payments through unofficial platforms.
Individuals who receive such messages have been encouraged to report them to the nearest DVLA office or the appropriate law enforcement agency for investigation.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the public from fraudulent activities and ensuring that all transactions are conducted through secure and approved channels.
