The Electoral Commission's adoption of a new logo has been a matter of intense public debate. Many have criticised the new logo as needless or not Ghanaian enough.

These criticisms led President John Mahama to, in a recent speech to the Council of State, ask for a stop to the debate over the new logo saying the outrage as needless.

But the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr, disagreeing with the President's call, has described the venture as “useless expenditure”.

Speaking o Peace FM's Kokrokoo Friday, he said, I don’t understand it. It is a useless expenditure which would not bring any changes to the upcoming elections.

According to Mr Pratt, it was baffling that the EC chose had ignored other “big issues” confronting it with regards to the upcoming elections and rather decided to change logos.

It was not just about changing logos but their stock of stationery needs to be changed, letterheads, invoices, receipts, rebranding of vehicles, regional and district offices and many other things which was costly and needless to go on that venture especially at this point, he reminded.

The EC's old logo, he added, had something that made it Ghanaian and represented the soul of the country unlike the new one which he said “should be thrown away.”
