Attorney General Gloria Akuffo has inaugurated a new nine-member governing board of the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO, on Thursday, February 22 in Accra.

At a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General's Department, Gloria Akuffo while noting the challenges facing EOCO expressed confidence that the problems will be addressed soon.

Chairman of the board, Justice Allan Brobbey, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, pledged the readiness of the board to prevent and detect organized crimes and facilitate the confiscation of proceeds of crime.

He thanked president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on behalf of the other EOCO board members for the confidence he has reposed in them and for their appointment to serve on the EOCO Board.

Functions of EOCO

EOCO as a body is mandated to investigate and on the authority of the Attorney-General prosecute serious offenses that involve: Financial or economic loss to the Republic or any State entity or institution in which the State has a financial interest, Money laundering, and Human trafficking.

Presidents Akufo-Addo has on many occasions reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption which led to the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the subsequent appointment of Martin Amidu as the first SP for Ghana.

Some Ghanaians including the former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings believe the appointment of a Special Prosecutor exhibits Akufo-Addo's readiness to fight corruption.
