The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has rescued seven Nigerian nationals believed to have been trafficked into Ghana to engage in cybercrime, following a special operation conducted at Mataheko-Afienya on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The operation, codenamed Operation LIFELINE, also led to the arrest of ten individuals – three suspected traffickers and seven victims – all of Nigerian nationality.
According to EOCO, the victims are between the ages of 17 and 30.
In a statement issued by the Office on Monday, November 17, 2025, available to Metro TV, EOCO said the traffickers lured their victims into Ghana with promises of legitimate jobs but later forced them into illegal cyber activities under harsh and exploitative conditions.
“The suspects, who initially lure their victims with promises of employment in Ghana, subsequently subject them to harsh and exploitative conditions and compel them to engage in online fraud schemes and prohibited cyber activities,” the Office explained.
EOCO further urged the public to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the Office’s hotlines.
“EOCO encourages the public to continue using its hotlines to report suspicious activities… Individuals involved in such illegal activities are strongly warned to desist, as the Office remains fully committed to pursuing and apprehending offenders,” the release added.
The Office also advised landlords to exercise caution when renting out properties, especially to foreign nationals, stressing the growing need for due diligence in helping curb criminal networks.
