Deputy Minister-designate for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has said the government has finally clamped down on the fall armyworm invasion.
According to the deputy minister, the fall armyworm was a problem for the government but with their bold decisions, they were able to defeat the worms.
Fall armyworm has destroyed a lot of farms in the country causing peasant farmers association of Ghana asking the government to declare a state of emergency to deal with the menace.
After being appointed as Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and announced on the floor of Parliament by the Speaker, Professor Mike Ocquaye, on Tuesday, October 3 Kennedy Osei Nyarko said the fall armyworm at a point were a threat to government’s planting for food and jobs initiative.“But the government didn’t sit down, we fought it head-on and we have defeated it.â€
Mr Nyarko was appointed to replace William Quaittoo, who resigned from his post after describing Northerners “liars†and “difficult†people to deal with.
He apologised for his comments and subsequently resigned.
