The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has seized 140 boxes of banned alcoholic drinks mixed with stimulants in the Upper East Region as part of efforts to protect public health and enforce food and beverage safety regulations.

The confiscated products included Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix, both of which are prohibited in Ghana.

According to the FDA, the products were seized because the combination of alcohol and stimulants can mask the effects of intoxication, potentially leading to excessive consumption and serious health risks.

The Authority warned that such drinks may impair consumers’ ability to recognize their level of intoxication, increasing the likelihood of alcohol poisoning, risky behaviour and other health complications.

The FDA has therefore advised the public to avoid consuming the products and urged distributors and retailers to comply with regulations governing the sale of alcoholic beverages in the country.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that only approved and safe products are available on the Ghanaian market.
