As part of activities marking World Clean-Up Day 2025, residents of Nungua Nshorna joined forces with members of Street Bikers on Saturday, September 20, 2025, to undertake a massive beach sanitation exercise aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and community action.
The exercise brought together youth volunteers, local leaders, and environmental enthusiasts who swept, raked, and collected plastic waste, bottles, and other debris along the shoreline. The event sought to raise awareness about the growing problem of marine pollution and the importance of collective responsibility in protecting Ghana’s coastal environment.
Speaking during the exercise, a representative of Street Bikers commended the community for its strong participation, emphasising that the initiative forms part of the group’s social responsibility efforts. “As bikers, we believe in adventure with purpose. Today, we chose to ride for the environment by joining hands with the people of Nungua to keep our beaches clean,” he said.
A spokesperson for the organising team, Ms Dora Larweh, also highlighted that the clean-up aligns with the global theme of World Clean-Up Day, encouraging local communities to take ownership of their environment. Participants were also educated on proper waste segregation and the dangers of plastic pollution to marine life.
World Clean-Up Day, observed annually in over 150 countries, unites millions of volunteers to combat the global waste crisis. The Nungua Nshorna event ended with renewed commitment from both residents and Street Bikers to sustain the campaign through periodic clean-up exercises and community education.
