The embattled mayor of the Kumasi metropolis, Kojo Bonsu has resigned.

His resignation follows a never-ending impasse between him and the Kumasi Traditional Council (KTC).

The stand-off with the KTC began after Mr Bonsu dismissed Amoamanhene, Nana Agyenim Boateng, the Asantehene's representative from the Kejetia market project board.

His inability to appear before the KTC to explain his conduct was interpreted as a further show of disrespect to the chiefs leading them to severe all ties with and also petition President Jon Mahama for his removal.

In a resignation letter, Mr Bonsu noted that, “I have conveyed my resignation as the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to the President of the Republic of Ghana”.

He also expressed his gratitude to President John Mahama and the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu and Nananom as well as the staff of the KMA and the people of Kumasi for the opportunity to serve the people.
