Five potential recruits have sustained various injuries following a stampede during the ongoing Ghana Armed Forces screening exercise at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
This was revealed by Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, in a Facebook post.
According to him, the injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention.
In a statement, the Minister expressed regret over the incident and assured the public of a thorough review of safety measures to prevent a recurrence in future recruitment and screening exercises.
“We deeply regret this incident and remain committed to ensuring that all future recruitment and screening exercises are conducted in a safe, orderly, and humane manner. Our thoughts and prayers are with the affected individuals and their families,” the statement said.
In a related development, GAF has temporarily suspended its ongoing 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region following a fatal incident that occurred on Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025, at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, the suspension is to allow for additional safety measures to ensure a smooth and incident-free continuation of the recruitment process.
A Board of Inquiry has been constituted to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragedy and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“The Armed Forces deeply regrets any inconvenience this suspension may have caused the general public, particularly affected applicants. Applicants will be informed of the date of resumption of the process later,” the statement added.
